New Delhi: Mohammad Shami's chances of traveling to Australia are looking bleak as he has not yet received fitness clearance. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still undecided on when to send Shami. It was initially hoped that Shami could make it to Australia before the third Test, but it now seems unlikely. The question remains whether Shami will be able to join the team Down Under.
Mohammed Shami’s fitness is being closely examined:
It is very clear that Shami’s fitness is currently being closely examined. BCCI’s sports science wing has not yet been able to give Shami’s clearance report to the board. When Shami was playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match for Bengal in Rajkot, a team from the NCA went there to take a closer look at him.

The team monitoring Shami’s fitness included a national selector Shivsunder Das, BCCI’s science wing head Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning trainer Nishant Bardule. The team’s focus was not on Shami’s bowling but on whether he would be able to fully withstand the pressure of a Test match or not.
Shami cannot go to Australia before the end of December:
According to sources, Shami is not going to fly to Australia at any cost. India is missing him at the beginning of the series, but despite this, he is not expected to be available before the Sydney Test. There can be some hope of him playing in the Boxing Day Test to be held from December 26.
However, these are all just expectations and if he is not fully fit, the board will not send him to Australia. Bengal is in the knockout stage of the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, so Shami is expected to play for them.
